Bursa Malaysia Extends Loss At Mid-afternoon Amid Lacklustre Market

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia traded mixed at mid-afternoon, with the benchmark index slipping 0.54 per cent amid a lacklustre market, in contrast to mainly higher regional markets. 

At 4 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 9.04 points to 1,671.28 from Monday’s close of 1,680.32. The benchmark started the day 1.91 points lower at 1,678.41.

However, the market breadth was positive, with gainers outpacing losers 558 to 539, while 518 counters remained unchanged, 1,034 were untraded, and 11 were suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.24 billion shares worth RM2.03 billion.

Among the heavyweight stocks, Maybank and CelcomDigi both jumped 16 sen to RM10.72 and RM3.43, respectively, while Petronas Gas was flat at RM18.20, and CIMB trimmed 24 sen to RM8. Public Bank dropped three sen to RM4.53, and TNB fell 24 sen to RM13.50. 

On the most active list, MMAG and Zetrix AI rose half a sen each to 7.5 sen and 81 sen, respectively, while Tanco added one sen to RM1.19. Insights Analytics surged 19 sen to RM1.65, and Pharmaniaga was flat at 28 sen. 

Among the top gainers, Nestle jumped RM3 to RM118.70, Malaysian Pacific Industries improved 68 sen to RM32.18, United Plantations expanded 38 sen to RM30.38, and LPI Capital advanced 22 sen to RM14.80.

Among the top decliners, Dutch Lady was discounted by 58 sen to RM30.66, while Kuala Lumpur Kepong and Hong Leong Financial Group both dropped 22 sen to RM19.76 and RM19.26, respectively. Petronas Dagangan lost 16 sen to RM19.88.  

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index narrowed 31.70 points to 12,318.5, the FBM Top 100 Index went down 37.64 points to 12,113.59, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index fell 20.34 points to 12,110.54. 

The FBM Mid 70 Index strengthened 72.25 points to 17,127.30, and the FBM ACE Index added 24.75 points to 4,953.5. 

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index lost 53.51 points to 19,775.62, the Energy Index eased 3.18 points to 765.83, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched up 1.36 points to 172.52, and the Plantation Index fell 15.41 points to 8,288.40.
