KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- The 2026 edition of the World Governments Summit (WGS) is set to host the largest ever international participation in its history, convening several landmark forums that underscore its growing global stature.
According to a statement, the WGS will be held from Feb 3 to 5 under the theme ‘Shaping Future Governments’.
The roster of high-level participants includes more than 35 heads of state, government delegations, and over 150 governments. World-leading knowledge institutions and corporations, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank, are also confirmed attendees.
WGS 2026 will host multiple world-class forums, notably the New Silk Road Forum, the high-level IFC-led Investment Forum – Latin America & the Caribbean, the 10th International Cooperation Conference in collaboration with the Association of Caribbean States, and the Future of Economy Forum.
Meanwhile, making its global debut outside of Shanghai, China, is the World Laureates Summit (WLS). This major event, hosted in collaboration with the World Laureates Association, will bring together winners of the Nobel Prize, Turing Award, Fields Medal, Great Arab Minds, and other major international scientific honourees.
The WLS, also taking place from Feb 3 to 5, aims to gather laureates and world leaders to shape science-led solutions targeting pressing global challenges. The outcomes of the WLS will be announced during WGS 2026.
Confirmed notable attendees for the WLS include Michael Levitt (2013 Nobel in Chemistry), Kip Thorne (2017 Nobel in Physics), and John Hopcroft (1986 Turing Award).
Overall, WGS comprises more than 320 sessions and is scheduled to host over 100 international and regional organisations and more than 450 global figures, including presidents, ministers, experts, thought leaders, and decision-makers.
The WGS 2026 agenda is structured around 24 specialised global forums dedicated to anticipating future trends across vital sectors.
