KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Sharjah Deputy Ruler and Sharjah Media Council Chairman, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, has recently visited the Huawei Research and Development Centre and Shanghai Media Group (SMG) during an official visit to Shanghai, China.

At the centre operated by Huawei, Sheikh Sultan toured Huawei Village, a 2.2-million-square-metre site comprising more than 100 buildings and laboratories and employing over 30,000 staff, according to a statement.

He reviewed the master plan and facilities supporting the company’s business strategy and product development, as well as employee services and infrastructure.

Sheikh Sultan later visited the research and development (R&D) Centre, where he was briefed on its strategy and R&D framework, including specialised laboratories focused on developing technological solutions for key sectors.

He was also introduced to Huawei’s latest digital infrastructure technologies serving the media sector, smart cities, security systems, data storage and artificial intelligence, and their role in improving service quality, efficiency and sustainability.

During a meeting with Huawei representatives, Sheikh Sultan emphasised the importance of leveraging global experience in R&D and reaffirmed Sharjah’s commitment to keeping pace with technological advances to strengthen the media sector’s regional and international competitiveness.

At SMG, he toured production studios and observed broadcasting and live transmission technologies, including outside broadcast vans used for major international events, while being briefed on the group’s four digital platforms covering television and film broadcasting, radio services, live news and economic and financial information.

Sheikh Sultan met the group’s Director General and several officials, where he commended the organisation’s media management practices and discussed opportunities for joint cooperation to enhance media content and promote positive values.

The visits form part of broader efforts to strengthen cooperation with international technology and media institutions, and to adopt best practices in innovation, scientific research and technological development in support of the media ecosystem in the Emirate of Sharjah.
