Upwind Expands Across APJ To Tackle Cloud Risk

03/03/2026 11:08 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- Upwind, the runtime-first cloud security leader, announced an expansion across Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ), doubling down on its presence in India to meet escalating enterprise demand for real-time cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) security.

“Across APJ, cloud and AI are accelerating faster than most security models were built for,” said Upwind Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Amiram Shachar in a statement.

He stated that Upwind's inside-out view of cloud risk grounded in runtime, enables enterprises to prioritise active threats, reduce alert noise, and make faster decisions to innovate securely at scale.

Building on established offices in key regional hubs, Upwind has accelerated its scale-up by growing its global customer base 200 per cent year over year and tripling its APJ workforce in the last three months.

The expansion includes strategic investment in local infrastructure, expansion of engineering and go-to-market teams, and the deployment of in-region Software as a Service (SaaS) instances across India, Australia, Singapore, and Japan to support data residency, performance, and regulatory requirements alongside a partner-first strategy.

The urgency for this security scale-up is driven by rapid cloud adoption across APJ, which simultaneously exposes live cloud environments to escalating risk. In India, 85 per cent of organisations reported a cloud security incident in the past year, while over 75 per cent of Australian organisations faced malicious cloud activity, contributing to an estimated AUD$86 billion in economic impact. (AUD$1 = RM2.79)

As multi-cloud environments grow more complex and regulatory frameworks—such as DPDA, PDPA, and MAS guidelines—tighten, cloud risk has become an immediate, operational business impact. Runtime cloud security is proving essential for organisations to protect what is actively running, reachable, and exploitable in dynamic environments.

Upwind’s strategy is built on a partner-first approach, adding over 100 new partners across ISVs, MSPs, and resellers in the past year. The company also announced a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a select CNAPP partner, embedding its runtime-first solution within AWS Security Hub for a simplified single-vendor experience.

The value of Upwind’s approach is validated by major regional customers. This APJ expansion reinforces Upwind’s global growth strategy, ensuring enterprises have the local expertise and data residency options required to manage cloud and AI risk, which is increasingly a board-level concern tied directly to availability, revenue, and customer trust.
