RM452 Mln Deferred Funds Held In Trust Until Dec 31, 2025 -- MoF

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- The total deferred funds held by AmanahRaya are RM452 million as of Dec 31, 2025.

According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), deferred funds refer to cash funds from the administration of estates or trusts that have been transferred to AmanahRaya after the original owner has been identified and confirmed deceased, but have not yet been distributed.

“In the context of AmanahRaya, the assets managed are in the form of deferred funds and not frozen assets.

“Among which are the beneficiaries or recipients who are entitled to be traced, have not cooperated or have not made a claim,” according to the MoF in a reply on the parliament website today to a question from Rodziah Ismail (PH-Ampang) who wanted to know about the action plan and implementation mechanism to resolve the country’s frozen inheritance assets amounting to RM90 billion, equivalent to almost five per cent of the 2024 gross domestic product.

The MoF said the funds were temporarily segregated and held securely by AmanahRaya as the Public Trustee for administrative purposes, including investigating, identifying and tracking the rightful beneficiaries, before distribution was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the law.

MOF said that regarding the estimated frozen estate assets amounting to RM90 billion, the assets generally refer to the estate of the deceased which are still frozen in banks, other financial institutions or the Land Office because the legal and administrative processes have not been completed.

This includes the absence of a Power of Attorney or Grant of Probate or when the estate administrator has not been legally appointed.

“In this situation, the assets are still under the control of the respective relevant institutions,” it said.

The MoF through relevant agencies will continue to implement prevention and facilitation approaches through efforts to track and identify heirs, digitalisation of estate administration services, trusts and wills, awareness and education programmes on estate planning, as well as strategic collaboration with relevant government agencies and institutions.

“This approach aims to speed up the resolution of inheritance cases, reduce abandoned property, and protect the rights of heirs in an orderly and effective manner to ensure that this issue can be addressed sustainably and in the interests of the people,” it said.
