Cement Price Index Rises 0.8 Pct-5.9 Pct Year-On-Year In February 2026 -- DOSM

PUTRAJAYA, March 11 (Bernama) -- The unit price index of cement increased between 0.8 per cent and 5.9 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) in February 2026 compared with the same month last year, while the steel price index declined between 1.2 per cent and 8.1 per cent, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the increase in the cement unit price index was recorded across all regions in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, with the highest rise seen in Pahang at 5.9 per cent, followed by Perak (5.5 per cent) and Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan (5.1 per cent). 

“An annual comparison for the period of February 2025 and February 2026 has indicated that the unit price index for steel recorded a decline ranging from negative 1.2 per cent to negative 8.1 per cent involving most areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak,” he said in a statement on the Building Cost Index (BCI) for February 2026 released today.

Mohd Uzir said the highest decline in the steel price index was recorded in Kuching (-8.1 per cent), followed by Sibu (-7.1 per cent) and Miri (-6.8 per cent).

On a monthly basis, the cement unit price index in February 2026 rose between 0.2 per cent and 1.1 per cent compared with January 2026, with the highest increase recorded in Kuching (1.1 per cent) and Perak (0.4 per cent).

Meanwhile, the aggregate price index recorded a slight increase ranging from 0.1 per cent to 3.4 per cent across all regions in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak during the same period.

In terms of average prices, steel consisting of mild steel round bars and Mycon 60 high tensile deformed bars fell 1.4 per cent to RM3,404.40 per tonne in February 2026, compared with RM3,454.00 per tonne in January 2026.

The average price of Ordinary Portland cement rose slightly by 0.2 per cent to RM25.35 per 50-kilogramme bag, compared with RM25.30 per 50-kilogramme bag in January.
