KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's export unit value index in February 2026 eased by 0.01 per cent to 153.11 points from 153.12 points in January, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
The import unit value index also declined by 0.3 per cent month-on-month (m-o-m) to 122.6 points from 123.0 points previously.
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the marginal decline in the export unit value index was mainly due to decreases in animal and vegetable oils and fats (-1.8 per cent), manufactured goods (-0.5 per cent) and mineral fuels (-0.2 per cent).
He said the export volume index fell by 10.8 per cent, driven by declines in mineral fuels (-18.0 per cent), machinery and transport equipment (-13.7 per cent) and manufactured goods (-11.4 per cent).
The seasonally adjusted export volume index also decreased by 11.2 per cent m-o-m to 158.9 points from 179.0 points.
On a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, the export unit value and volume indices rose by 1.1 per cent and 9.5 per cent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the import unit value index decreased by 0.3 per cent, attributed to lower indices of mineral fuels (-5.4 per cent), chemicals (-0.4 per cent) and machinery and transport equipment (-0.1 per cent).
Import volume index also declined by 8.2 per cent m-o-m, mainly due to decreases in mineral fuels (-21.3 per cent), manufactured goods (-15.8 per cent) and chemicals (-12.9 per cent).
The seasonally adjusted import volume index fell by 9.0 per cent to 152.9 points from 168.0 points previously.
The import unit value index contracted by 4.3 per cent y-o-y, while the import volume index increased by 13.0 per cent y-o-y.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s terms of trade rose by 0.3 per cent m-o-m to 124.9 points in February, driven by the increase in mineral fuels (+5.5 per cent), inedible crude materials (+1.2 per cent) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+0.8 per cent).
On an annual basis, Malaysia’s terms of trade rose by 5.7 per cent y-o-y from 118.2 points previously.
