JOHOR BAHRU, March 30 (Bernama) -- Johor should seize the opportunity to position itself as a stable investment destination amid global uncertainty following the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
State Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han said supportive policies and stable political conditions, along with the state’s distance from conflict zones and low natural disaster risks, could serve as key attractions for investors.
“We can offer multinational companies a suitable base for investments, particularly in sectors such as data centres, logistics and manufacturing,” he told reporters after officiating the strategic collaboration signing ceremony between Paragon Globe Bhd and GSP Automotive Group here today.
He said this when he was asked to comment on the West Asia conflict and its impact on investment in Johor.
Last year, the state posted record-breaking investment inflows of RM110 billion -- the highest in the nation’s history.
Lee said the state government is undertaking several initiatives to promote the state as a strategic investment destination, including an upcoming four-day official visit to China, led by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi starting this Wednesday.
He added that the state government is expected to collaborate with five banking institutions and hold briefings with 170 companies on investment opportunities in Johor.
Meanwhile, he noted that the conflict in West Asia has driven up costs, not only in the oil and fuel industries, but also in cement, stone and sand, affecting the construction and logistics sectors.
Lee said the state government is closely monitoring the situation, and discussions on the conflict’s impact on the economy and investment will also be held with Onn Hafiz later today.
He said short-term measures — including strengthening the Bantuan Kasih Johor and Jualan Kasih Johor initiatives — as well as longer-term planning together with the Federal Government must be prioritised to help the public navigate the current challenges.
