KOTA BHARU, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has urged Malaysians planning to visit Golok, Thailand, to use legal entry points to avoid potential legal consequences.
He highlighted that while it has become a common practice for Malaysians to use illegal routes, this habit indirectly creates opportunities for smugglers to engage in cross-border crimes.
“Malaysians should opt for legal routes, as illegal entry points lack customs, immigration, and other necessary security checks,” he told Bernama recently.
He made these comments in response to the preference of some Malaysians for illegal routes to Golok over legitimate entry points.
On Nov 10, the General Operations Force (GOF) acknowledged that illegal routes are favoured by locals in this state for travelling to Golok, with many of these routes running along Sungai Golok, particularly in Rantau Panjang.
Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Ab Hamid said that while the GOF has increased efforts to strengthen control along Sungai Golok, manpower limitations remain a challenge.
