LABUAN, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- A senior citizen was sentenced to 10 years in prison today after pleading guilty to drug trafficking at his unnumbered house in Kampung Saguking late last year.

High Court Judge Alexander Siew How Wai ordered the sentence to commence from the date of the accused’s arrest.

The accused, Usang Manjilani, 64, who is unemployed, was arrested on Nov 21, 2023, following a narcotics team raid on his home after a public tip-off.

He was charged under Section 39B (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read together with Section 34 of the same Act.

Usang, who tested positive for methamphetamine, was arrested with three others, including a woman who was later released after he accepted full responsibility.

During the raid, police discovered a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine, or also known as Syabu, packed in a blue bag inside a cabinet and a silver-black weighing scale, suspected to be used for drug trafficking.

The court spared Usang from whipping due to his age.
