STRAY DOGS BEHIND CAT DEATHS AT UM - POLICE

22/12/2024 03:50 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 (Bernama) -- The recent deaths of several cats at Universiti Malaya (UM) have been attributed to an attack by a pack of stray dogs, according to findings from police investigations based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) confirmed the cats died from injuries sustained during the attack.

"The police have received three reports regarding the cat deaths at the university on Tuesday, Friday, and yesterday. However, no eyewitnesses were present during the incidents," Rusdi said in a statement today.

CCTV footage from the affected areas revealed the presence of stray dogs attacking the cats, shedding light on the tragic events.

Rusdi urged the public to refrain from speculating on the matter, as it could lead to unnecessary anxiety. He encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999 or visit the nearest police station.

Rusdi also reminded the public to report cases of animal cruelty directly to the DVS through their official platform at awa.dvs.gov.my, enabling strict action against offenders.

Yesterday, Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail called for immediate and thorough investigations into the recent incidents, particularly regarding the horrific discovery of a cat’s remains in UM, with evidence suggesting its body parts had been cut off.

Dr Wan Azizah added that a comprehensive investigation must examine all facts to uncover the truth behind these unsettling events.
