OP HAZARD: NATIONAL SECURITY UNDER CONTROL - POLICE

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) have provided assurances that national security, especially in border areas, are under control.

Its director, Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said border areas were always a priority and tight control with joint enforcement in accordance with existing laws were conducted.

He added that his department had discovered a three-minute 44-second video on TikTok recently that manipulated facts about an operation by the authorities against illegal e-waste facilities in the country and caused public concern.

“The video content is of a provocative nature, depicting the arrests of foreigners as a threat towards national security, especially lax border controls.

“The public is advised to be cautious when creating content, issuing and uploading statements and commentaries that could cause public concern,” he said in a statement today, adding that stern action will be taken against those who threaten harmony and prosperity and cause a feeling of unease among the public.

Azmi had shared yesteday that investigations were focused on the companies managing the factories’ operations to determine whether the 47 illegal e-waste factories raided were linked to each other.

A total of 47 factories were inspected by the Department of Enviroment under Op Hazard on Feb 15 and  22.9 million kilogrammes of e-waste worth RM2.68 billion were seized, while 246 individuals were detained, he added.

He said that the suspects are being investigated for various offences under the Arms Act 1960, the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Environmental Quality Act 1974 (Amendment 2024).
