GEORGE TOWN, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- The two individuals reported to have lost their way while hiking in a forest area near Freedom Hill, Happy Rock in Batu Ferringhi, near here today, have been safely rescued.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of Fire and Rescue Operations Division John Sagun Francis identified them as Australian citizens Patrick Philippe Chung, 44, and his wife Patricia Wong, 45.

"The operations commander sized up the situation before conducting the search and rescue operation based on the location shared by the victims via WhatsApp, before the couple was found safe, with the help of members of the public at the site.

"They were taken to the base of the hill and handed over to the police, before ending the operation at 6.41 pm,” he said in a statement today.

The search and rescue operation, he said, was carried out by six personnel from the Bagan Jermal Fire and Rescue Station
