BETONG, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The body of one of four men, who went missing after a boat carrying 10 passengers capsized while crossing Sungai Krian near the Kaba Ferry jetty in Saratok, yesterday, has been found today.
A spokesman for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO) said the victim, a 25-year-old local man who was the boat skipper, was discovered by search and rescue teams at 9.37 am.
“Three others are still missing, all of whom are Indonesian workers,” the spokesman said in a statement today.
He said that the department received an emergency call at 6.13 pm yesterday, before a team from the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was deployed to the location, about 56 kilometres away.
All 10 victims were employees of a company, and were on their way home from a work site at Sesang jetty to Pusa jetty when the incident occurred.
The spokesman said that the boat had capsized mid-river, and six Indonesian passengers managed to save themselves by clinging to a nearby barge before being rescued by another boat, while four others were reported missing.
He added that the search and rescue (SAR) operation commenced at 7.40 am today, with the setting up of an Incident Control Post (PKTK) at the Kaba Ferry jetty, followed by a briefing involving relevant agencies and local villagers.
