SIBU, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Police arrested an e-hailing driver in Mukah yesterday evening for allegedly uploaded threatening statements in the Melanau dialect while brandishing a knife in a video recording on social media.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the 36-year-old suspect was arrested by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of Mukah district police headquarters at 5.30 pm.
“Also seized were a machete, a mobile phone, a car, a face mask and the clothes used when the video recording was made. A urine test found the suspect to be negative for drugs and has no criminal record,” he said in a statement today.
Muhamad Rizal said police obtained a two-day remand order starting today to facilitate investigations.
According to him, police received a report regarding the two-minute 16-second video that went viral on social media, showing a man uttering threatening words in the Melanau dialect while brandishing a machete.
“The (police) report was received from a 34-year-old man working at a private company who became the victim of threats on Oct 6 at about 5 pm. Acting on information and intelligence, the suspect was arrested on the same day,” he said.
Muhamad Rizal said investigations found that the complainant and suspect knew each other and the incident stemmed from the complainant reprimanding the suspect for his disrespectful behaviour, causing the angry suspect to upload a threatening video on Facebook.
