COURT FIXES MARCH TRIAL DATES FOR HILMAN IDHAM’S TIKTOK CASE

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The trial of Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham, who is facing a charge of making a statement that allegedly caused public alarm through social media platform TikTok, is set to begin in early March next year at the Magistrate’s Court here.

Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri fixed the trial dates for March 2 and 3 after Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Sabri Othman informed the court that the prosecution had handed over the relevant documents to the defence and requested that trial dates be set.

“The prosecution has just handed over the documents to the defence to ensure that the trial proceeds in an orderly manner. Therefore, we request the court to fix the hearing dates,” said Mohd Sabri during case mention today.

Meanwhile, defence counsel Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, representing Muhammad Hilman, confirmed receiving the documents from the prosecution.

Speaking to reporters after proceedings, Muhammad Rafique said his client was ready for trial and had no intention of applying to strike out the charge.

On Aug 20, Muhammad Hilman, 36, was charged with making a TikTok statement that could cause fear to the public and incite others to commit an offence against public order at 2.09 pm on July 30.

A police officer from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department had viewed the TikTok post at Menara KPJ here.

The charge was framed under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code (Act 574), which carries a maximum jail term of two years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.

Previously, the court granted Muhammad Hilman bail of RM4,000 with one surety.
