IPOH, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- A man who reportedly fell into Sungai Tuntung near Pantai Remis yesterday evening while foraging for clams was found drowned last night.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting operations chief Shazlean Mohd Hanafia said the victim, Mohamad Zulkifli Mat Saad, 27, was found about 10 metres from the spot where he was reported to have fallen.
“The search operation resumed at 11.15 pm after the river level began to recede, with the search area extending about one kilometre from where the victim was believed to have fallen.
“The operation involved two boats and eight personnel, including four members of the Water Rescue Team (PPDA),” he said in a statement this morning.
He said the rescue team was also assisted by members of the public who carried out searches on foot through the nearby mangrove area.
“At about 11.30 pm, the victim was found in the area and brought out through a land route…The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was handed over to the police for further action,” he added.
