KOTA TINGGI, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- A young man’s wish to buy his mother’s umrah set was left unfulfilled when he and two friends were killed in a three-vehicle crash at KM56 of the Senai-Desaru Expressway yesterday morning.

The victim, Fazrizal Izuan Zuhaimi, 20, the youngest of four siblings, was pronounced dead at the scene after the Volkswagen Golf he was travelling in with three friends collided with a Toyota Fortuner and a Honda CR-V at about 11.45 am.

His mother, Maryani Mohd Zaini, 50, said Fazrizal Izuan, who had been working in Pengerang for the past two years, was supposed to return to their home in Puncak Alam, Selangor, today or tomorrow to buy umrah sets for his parents, who are scheduled to leave for the Holy Land next Wednesday.

“He told me he wanted to buy my umrah attire. He said, ‘Mom, wait for Boy - we’ll buy everything together,’ and that was the last time we spoke,” she said when met at the Forensic Unit of Kota Tinggi Hospital (HKT) today.

Maryani said her son, affectionately known as Boy, was a quiet, loving, and responsible young man who always cared deeply for his family.

According to Maryani, the last time the family gathered was last month following the passing of her father in Damansara, Selangor.

“I can’t find a single fault in him. Everyone said he was a good boy - always helpful and loved by the whole family. Whenever I asked, he would just say he was fine because he didn’t want me to worry,” she said.

Meanwhile, housewife Zanaidah Mat Isa, 44, the mother of another victim, described her son as obedient, affectionate, and always attentive to his parents.

She said her second child, Muhammad Hafizhan Hanafi Norhaizal, 21, affectionately known as Angah, had been the family’s confidant since he began working at RAPID Pengerang a year ago.

“He was the most obedient among my children. Even when I scolded him, he never talked back - he would just stay quiet. The last time we spoke was two days before the accident,” she said in tears.

“I called him to tell him that his father’s motorcycle needed major repairs, and he said it was okay - he would take care of it later,” she said when met at the compound of the Kota Tinggi Hospital Forensic Department today.

Zanaidah said she never imagined that the accident would claim her son’s life when she received a call from the police at about 3 pm yesterday.

“I thought he was only injured, but around 5 pm, the police called again and told me that my son had passed away. I accept it as Allah’s will,” she said.

Recalling fond memories of her late son, she said that during Aidilfitri celebration in Perlis, he had asked her to cook his favourite dish - butter chicken.

“He was a good son. He never got angry or raised his voice,” she added.

Zanaidah said Muhammad Hafizhan’s remains would be brought back to their hometown in Arau, Perlis, to be laid to rest at the Kampung Bakong Behor Mengkuang Muslim Cemetery.

In the 11.45 am incident yesterday, three people were killed in a collision involving a Volkswagen Golf, a Toyota Fortuner, and a Honda CR-V along the Senai-Desaru Expressway.

Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Yusof Othman confirmed that the driver and two passengers of the Volkswagen Golf died - two at the scene and one while receiving treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) in Johor Bahru.
