MENORA TUNNEL STRETCH CLOGGED BY 7KM JAM AFTER LORRY CRASH

15/10/2025 06:18 PM

IPOH, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- A crash involving a container lorry at Kilometre (KM) 256 northbound of the North-South Expressway (PLUS), from the Menora Tunnel to Kuala Kangsar this morning is causing traffic congestion stretching over seven kilometres near Kuala Kangsar.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), in a post on its social media platform X via the @plustrafik account, said the 7.56 am incident has resulted in all northbound lanes being blocked, leading to the traffic buildup.

“Clearing works involving the container lorry accident are currently ongoing at KM256.8 northbound between the Menora Tunnel and Kuala Kangsar stretch.

“All lanes remain blocked, and a contraflow is still active from KM255.8 to KM257.3 southbound. The U-turn and mandatory exit have been deactivated,” the post said as of 11.30 am.

PLUS also advised motorists to follow instructions from traffic controllers or signages at the scene and to consider using alternative routes.

Meanwhile, Kuala Kangsar police chief ACP Heisham Harun said initial investigations found that a container truck carrying tyre manufacturing materials lost control while heading north.

“Upon reaching the accident site, the truck, travelling in the far-right lane, overturned and blocked the entire northbound carriageway.

“The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital by ambulance for further treatment. The incident caused an eight-kilometre traffic jam on the PLUS highway,” he said in a statement today.

He urged anyone with information about the case to contact Highway Unit Zone 3, Northern Sector investigating officer Sergeant Mohd Razlan Md Nor at 010-7176141.

The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/59) for failing to control a vehicle while driving, leading to an accident.

PLUS, via its official X account @plustrafik, later confirmed that the incident site has been fully cleared with all lanes reopened, although traffic remained slow as of 2.50 pm.
