IPOH, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Perak police detained 413 people in a three-day swoop under Op Tapis Khas to combat drug trafficking activities and drug addiction in the state.
Perak deputy police chief DCP Mohammad Azlin Sadari said they also seized various types of drugs worth over RM87,000.
He said the major operation, held from Monday (Oct 13) to Wednesday (Oct 15), involved 270 personnel, including 28 senior officers, and with the cooperation of seven National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) personnel.
"The operation focused on Felda and Felcra areas, private plantations, flats and fishermen's jetties which had been identified as addicts’ location.
"Of the total number detained, 53 are being investigated for the offence of drug trafficking, 128 for drug possession, 224 under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while three more are being detained under Section 3 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985,” he told a media conference here today.
Meanwhile, he said the drugs seized comprised 13.7 kilogrammes (kg) of ganja, 2.6kg of heroin, 92.76 grammes of syabu, 0.004 litres of liquid syabu, 3.11 grammes of ketamine, 89 Erimin 5 pills, 35 Yaba pills, 2,000 grammes of ketum leaves and 22.2 litres of ketum water.
He added that they also confiscated four motorcycles, a car and cash totalling RM24,871.
Mohammad Azlin said that besides Malaysians, they also detained nine Cambodians, two Thai nationals and one each from Indonesia, Nepal and China during the operation.
He said their most significant achievements were the arrest of two men and the seizure of 13.6kg of ganja worth RM37,700 in Taiping and the detention of a man along with 2.3kg of heroin and 0.6 grammes of syabu valued at RM22,917 in Batu Gajah.
