JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- A woman and her son were killed, and three others injured, in a three-vehicle collision yesterday afternoon at KM65 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Ayer Hitam near Simpang Renggam.
In a statement today, Kluang police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the accident, which occurred around 5.30 pm, involved a Perodua Kancil car, a Mazda factory van and a Toyota Hilux four-wheel-drive.
Initial investigations found that a 51-year-old woman, driving her two sons (aged 15 and nine) from Simpang Renggam towards Kampung Bukit Kenangan in a Perodua Kancil, had stopped to turn right into a junction.
The factory van, driven by a 53-year-old man travelling in the same direction, is believed to have lost control and crashed into the Kancil’s rear, causing it to veer into the opposite lane.
The Kancil was then struck by the oncoming Toyota Hilux, driven by a 62-year-old man. Subsequently, the van also collided with the four-wheel-drive.
The woman and her 15-year-old son in the front passenger seat died at the scene from severe injuries, while the other son in the back seat sustained serious injuries to his head and leg.
The van driver suffered injuries to his face, chest, and right leg, while the Toyota Hilux driver sustained only minor injuries.
All injured victims were transported to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang for treatment. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Operations commander, Senior Fire Officer II (PBK II) Shoromi Salih from the Renggam Fire and Rescue Station said the deceased were identified as Rulijah Ahmad and Salam Norazli. They were pronounced dead at the scene by a Ministry of Health medical officer.
The injured nine-year-old boy was identified as Osama Norazli and the factory van driver’s name was B Chandran.
