BUKIT MERTAJAM, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- Police investigations revealed that the murder incident involving a woman who was found dead along with her daughter at a house in Kampung Sekolah Juru here on Oct 18, is believed to be motivated by revenge.
Penang Police Chief, Datuk Azizee Ismail, said this finding came from the detention of the main suspect, a 35-year-old Nepalese man, who was arrested in Selangor on Oct 24, and is believed to have been attempting to flee to avoid arrest by the authorities.
"The man, who is believed to be the main suspect in the case, will complete his remand tomorrow, and the police will apply for an extension of the remand order against him in court (Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court) tomorrow to complete the investigation paper for the case, which is currently in its final stage for police completion.
"Based on the investigation, the motive is believed to be the suspect's revenge against the female victim, but I cannot elaborate further or disclose more details as the investigation on the foreign suspect is ongoing," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
He added that two other Nepalese men, including the older brother of the main suspect, who were arrested together on Oct 24, will be released on police bail after the expiry of their remand period tomorrow.
Azizee said the police will submit the completed investigation paper for the case to the State Deputy Public Prosecutor's office for further action.
"We will charge the foreign man after that, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.
Media previously reported that the victims, Sariya Che Hin, 51, and her adopted daughter, Nur Afrina Alisha Abdul Rahim, 11, were found dead in their rented house in Kampung Sekolah Juru, with the woman's body found in the kitchen and the child's on the upper floor.
Police also detained the victim's 57-year-old husband to assist with the investigation and remanded the three Nepalese men for seven days until tomorrow.
