KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Police have reclassified the death of a 54-year-old security guard, who was assaulted outside a condominium on Jalan Ipoh here on Oct 13, as murder.

Sentul police chief ACP Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the investigation into the case has been updated following the victim's death.

"The investigation paper has been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said at the Sentul district police headquarters (IPD) today.

He said the suspect, a 32-year-old man who is believed to be a tenant of a unit in the condominium, was still released on police bail pending further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor.

“This case was initially investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing injury with a weapon. After the victim was confirmed dead, the case classification was revised,” he said.

Ahmad Sukarno said police also seized a lighter resembling a pistol from the suspect.

According to him, the victim had previously filed a police report claiming that the suspect had pointed an object resembling a pistol at him.

Media previously reported that the victim, R. Chandran, was attacked and injured by a male tenant at a condominium on Jalan Ipoh, while he was on duty at the checkpoint on Oct 13.

In the incident at about 5 am, the suspect slapped, punched and stomped on the victim’s body after his request to be accompanied to another block was rejected because the guard could not leave his post.

The victim, who suffered soft tissue injuries to his head, received treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital before returning home.

However, the victim reportedly fell unconscious at his home on the same night and was later confirmed dead from a heart attack.
