SHAH ALAM, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained two foreign fishing vessels along with two skippers (tekong) and eight foreign crew members for carrying out illegal fishing activities around the waters of Pulau Pintu Gedong, Klang, near here, yesterday morning.

The Selangor Maritime Director, Captain (Maritime) Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, said the boats and the foreigners were detained at 11 am and 11:30 am by his team during Op Ehsan, Op Murni, and Op Tiris operational patrols, approximately 12.7 nautical miles from the mainland.

He said an initial inspection found that each vessel was operated by one skipper, along with four crew members aged between 29 and 62.

"Further inspection revealed that both boats originated from Indonesia and all the crew did not possess valid identification documents," he said.

"The detained boats and crew were brought to the Marine Police Force Jetty, Pulau Indah, before being handed over to the Selangor State Maritime investigating officer for further action," he said in a statement here today.

Abdul Muhaimin stated that the case is being investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 for carrying out fishing activities in Malaysian waters without the permission of the Director-General of Fisheries Malaysia, and under the Immigration Act 1959/63 because the crew did not have valid identification documents.
