SIBU, Nov 7 (Bernama) – Police reined in a total of 221 individuals suspected of being drug addicts in this district and seized drugs worth more than RM120,000 in a dragnet codenamed 'Op Tapis Narkotik' from early last month until yesterday (Nov 6).
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that of the total, 206 people were men, 15 were women, including three foreigners, and a total of 3,163.55 grammes (g) of drugs suspected to be syabu or meth worth RM120,214.90 were seized.
According to him, the operation, which was launched on Oct 6, has seen 256 investigation papers opened, while 246 cases have been charged in court under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for various drug-related offences.
“Police welcome members of the public to come forward with drug-related information,” he said in a statement today.
He said that information can be relayed to the NCID (Narcotics Crime Investigation Department) hotline 012-2087222 (Bukit Aman NCID) and 017-59292211 (Sarawak NCID).
