KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- The company-owned vehicle used by a man still missing after being swept away by a sudden surge at Sungai Klang on Monday was found by the search and rescue (SAR) team this morning.
Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sazalee Adam said the Mitsubishi Pajero was located at 8.30 am, about 1.5 kilometres from the incident site, after water levels receded, making detection easier.
“Checks showed the victim was not inside the vehicle. The car has been recovered and handed back to the company that owns it,” he told reporters at the scene.
The SAR operation, now in its third day, resumed this morning after being halted at 6.30 pm yesterday. The missing victim is a 34-year-old man.
Sazalee said today’s operation involves 21 scuba divers from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Marine Police, supported by drones and small boats or kayaks to search along the river.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director M. Fatta M. Amin said improved weather, calmer currents and clearer water allowed divers to conduct a more thorough search.
Teams are being deployed to various points along a 20 km stretch of the river, divided into four zones, with the operation now extended into Selangor, covering Puchong, Shah Alam and Klang, he said. The incident, which occurred at about 5.30 pm on Monday, also involved 11 other victims who were trapped under a bridge but were successfully rescued by JBPM.
