FORMER JPKK CHAIRMAN CHARGED WITH CBT INVOLVING RM40,000

KUANTAN, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- A former Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) chairman was charged in the Sessions Court here today on two counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM40,000.

Mohamed Sahimi Wan Ishak, 63, pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read out before Judge Sazlina Safie.

The former JPKK chairman of Mat Daling, Jerantut, was charged with committing the offence by misusing the money which was entrusted to him by a representative of a logging company for payment to Mat Daling JPKK  in accordance with a logging agreement.

The offence was allegedly committed at a law firm and the logging company's office in Jerantut on July 7, 2022 and April 18, 2023.

The charges, framed under Section 406 of the Penal Code (Act 574), carry a prison sentence of up to 10 years, whipping and a fine, if convicted.

The court allowed Mohamed Sahimi, who is a rubber tapper, bail of RM5,000 and also ordered him to surrender his passport, report to the nearest Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office once a month and not intimidate witnesses.

Deputy public prosecutor Ezuain Farhana Ahmad, from MACC, prosecuted, while lawyer  Ahmad Syamsul Akmar Yusof, from the National Legal Aid Foundation, represented  Mohamed Sahimi.

The court set Jan 13 for mention.
