POLICE: JALAN WANG KELIAN, VIEW POINT CLOSED TEMPORARILY OVER SAFETY RISKS

26/11/2025 10:57 PM

KANGAR, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Police have temporarily closed Jalan Wang Kelian in Padang Besar and the Wang Kelian View Point to all road users starting 7 pm tonight, until further notice, due to safety risks arising from adverse weather conditions and unstable road structures.

Padang Besar district police chief ACP Mohd Shokri Abdullah said the decision was made following a risk assessment and technical discussions with relevant safety and technical agencies at the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Sungai Chuchuh Incident Control Centre (PKTK) this afternoon.

He said the agencies involved in the assessment included the Public Works Department (JKR), the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the Civil Defence Force (APM) and the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA).

“The closure will remain in effect until JKR confirms that the route is stable, and safe for use. The safety of road users is our top priority,” he said in a statement tonight.

He added that police, together with all relevant security agencies, are conducting 24-hour monitoring in the affected areas, and updates on the road’s reopening will be announced once the route is deemed fully safe.
