KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Fire and Rescue Department rescued 20 people who were trapped in floodwaters at Kampung Dusun Nanding in Hulu Langat, Selangor, after water levels rose rapidly following heavy rain this morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said an emergency call was received at 9.14 am before a team of seven firefighters from the Bandar Tun Hussien Onn Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the village was found to be inundated with water up to 0.3 metres deep, and all 20 victims were safely evacuated using a lorry. However, water levels at the location are now receding,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, two temporary relief centres were opened in Hulu Langat today — at Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) Dusun Nanding and Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Serai — to house flood victims after rising water levels in several areas.
Earlier, Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said two routes in Sungai Serai and Nanding, Hulu Langat had been temporarily closed due to flooding following continuous rain since early morning.
