IPOH, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) pilots are urged to remain committed to serving the force instead of leaving for commercial airlines after obtaining their licences.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said such decisions have serious operational and financial implications for PDRM and the country.
“This not only disrupts the force’s operations but is a major loss when return on investment cannot be realised through continued service.
“Moreover, the force has to bear substantial costs to train new pilots. Please remember and appreciate the opportunities that PDRM has opened for you,” he said at the Wing Awarding Ceremony and official closing of the Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) Course No. 20 Series 1/2023 (Helicopter) at the PDRM Air Operations Force Training Base (PLPGU) here today.
Also present was Air Operations Force (PGU) commander DCP Datuk Noor Sham Md Jani.
Mohd Khalid said with the issuance of licences and completion of training, participants were entrusted with operating police aviation assets worth hundreds of millions of ringgit.
“As such, the safety of lives and assets must be prioritised when handling these aircraft,” he said.
Meanwhile, Noor Sham, in his speech, said PLPGU’s training capacity continues to be strengthened, with plans to extend training up to the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) level.
He said PGU is considering enhancements through strategic collaboration between KOP Aviation and Gading Air Services Sdn Bhd, focusing on human capital, particularly on the instructor aspect and the acquisition of critical training assets.
“This is not only to meet current needs, but also to prepare PLPGU to stand on its own as a competitive and credible aviation training centre,” he said.
At the ceremony, nine senior police officers, including six women, became the first batch of PPL (Helicopter) graduates to complete their training.
They are Insp Muhammad Syafiq Rosli, 32, Insp Nur Nazarith Sofia Abdul Malik, 32, Insp Norashikin Jamid, 29, Insp Nur Izzati Bohari, 31, Insp Faten Nabela Rashdi, 32, Insp Norfazilah Md Zaki, 30, Insp Muhammad Muzzamer Mohd Rasid, 31, Insp Mohammad Azim Fiqri Jamaludin, 29, and Insp Nursairah Farhana Mohd Noor, 30.
The course ran from Nov 6, 2023 to Nov 24 this year, comprising academic modules and flight training using the EC120B helicopter.
