SHAH ALAM, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is ready to share information and conduct joint operations with the Malaysian Checkpoints and Border Agency (MBCA) to strengthen efforts to combat corruption and misconduct.

Its chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki said the cooperation is part of the agency’s initiatives and full support for the leadership of MBCA director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain in implementing 'internal cleansing' and strengthening the agency's integrity.

He said the MBCA, which includes several key agencies such as the Malaysian Immigration Department and Royal Malaysian Customs Department, requires close coordination in terms of enforcement to strengthen the efforts to combat corruption and integrity issues implemented by Mohd Shuhaily.

“The MACC has also held several discussions on how we can assist him (Mohd Shuhaily) in implementing internal cleansing, considering he is taking over many officers with different backgrounds and attitudes.

"We respect the direction taken by Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily in ensuring the continued strengthening of MBCA’s integrity, and I myself have also discussed this commitment with him," he said.

He said this to reporters after the MACC-UiTM Inspiration 2025: Integrity and Leadership Day ceremony at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Alam Campus here today.

Previously, Azam, who is also an adjunct professor at UiTM, delivered the keynote address titled "Integrity is the Core of Leadership, Trust is the Foundation of Success," at the ceremony that was also attended by UiTM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib @ Sahibuddin.

Earlier, the media reported that an MBCA officer was arrested in Johor Bahru on Sunday to assist in the investigation regarding alleged involvement in 'flying passport' activities.

The arrest by the MBCA Integrity Unit is believed to be part of the agency's ongoing efforts to combat corruption and prevent illegal entry attempts by foreign nationals.

In the raid at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI), the officer involved is believed to have possessed eight foreign passports, namely six Chinese passports and one each from Indonesia and Vietnam.
