POLICE RECORD STATEMENTS FROM FAMILY MEMBERS OF THREE SHOT DEAD IN DURIAN TUNGGAL

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Police have recorded statements from family members of the three individuals who were shot dead by the police on Nov 24 in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said three family members arrived at Bukit Aman with three lawyers at 10.30 am today.

“A mobile phone believed to contain an audio recording allegedly linked to the case was handed over to the police by one of them for further investigation.

“In addition, a voice sample from the witness was also taken with the assistance of CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) for analysis,” he said in a statement today.

Kumar said so far, the special investigation team had recorded statements from seven witnesses, comprising three family members and four medical officers.

He stressed that the investigation, led by Bukit Aman CID’s special investigation team, would be conducted fairly and professionally in accordance with the law.

“The police are committed to upholding transparency and integrity in all investigations to ensure justice is served impartially, and will not tolerate any form of misconduct,” he said.

On Nov 24, three men aged between 24 and 29 were shot dead after one of them allegedly swung a machete at a police officer at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal.

The 4.30 am incident left a police corporal in his early 30s with serious injuries to his left arm.

Earlier, Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspects, believed to be members of the Durian Tunggal Gang, were believed to be on their way to commit a robbery.

The gang had been actively involved in criminal activities since 2024, with 20 cases in Melaka and one each in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor, involving RM1.35 million in losses.

However, on Dec 3, family members of the three suspects disputed claims that the victims had acted violently by attacking police personnel. The police subsequently formed a special team to investigate the allegations raised by the families, who were dissatisfied with the police’s actions.
