TWO NABBED, OVER RM181,000 IN HEROIN AND METH SEIZED IN PENAGA

KEPALA BATAS, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Police arrested two local men and seized heroin and methamphetamine worth RM181,137 in two separate raids in Penaga, here yesterday.

Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) police chief ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman said that acting on information and intelligence, a team from the SPU Narcotics Crime Investigation Division carried out an operation and detained the first suspect in Permatang Berah.

“The 33-year-old man was arrested by the roadside, and police found 1,863.3 grammes of heroin worth RM17,300 in the vehicle he was driving. Police then conducted a second raid at a premise in Padang Tembusu.

“In that raid, police arrested a 27-year-old man, seized 5,119.9 grammes of methamphetamine worth RM163,837, and confiscated a Yamaha NYX motorcycle valued at RM12,000. The total value of the drugs seized and the confiscated items amounts to RM193,137,” he said in a statement today.

He said the syndicate’s modus operandi involved using a house as the base for drug distribution activities targeting the local market, and preliminary investigations found that the two suspects acted as runners for the syndicate leader.

Anuar said the police are tracking the syndicate network, believed to have been active for the past few months.

Both men tested positive for drugs, and the first suspect has two previous drug-related records.

They have been remanded for seven days until Dec 17 to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
