CHUKAI, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- Police nabbed a lorry driver early this morning near the Cheneh toll plaza on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) for allegedly transporting 470 sacks of subsidised fertiliser believed to have been smuggled.
Kemaman district police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the lorry driver, in his 40s, was detained by officers from the LPT2 Patrol Unit and the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department at around 2.30 am.
He said the lorry was heading from Kelantan to Pahang to sell the fertiliser on the black market when it was stopped by officers.
“The lorry driver failed to produce documents related to the sale and transportation of the subsidised fertiliser.
“Investigations found that the subsidised fertiliser was obtained in small quantities from villagers in Jelawat and Bachok, Kelantan, to be sold on the black market,” he said when contacted today.
He added that investigations also revealed the lorry driver was paid RM250 per trip to transport the fertiliser.
The lorry was taken to the Kemaman police headquarters for further action.
