KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31 (Bernama) -- The Central Brigade of the Royal Malaysia Police’s General Operations Force (GOF) seized goods worth over RM1.1 billion this year in operations targeting smuggling and cross-border crimes.
GOF Central Brigade Commander SAC Hakemal Hawari said the seizures followed 538 raids and operations conducted from Jan 1 to today across Selangor, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor.
He added that 1,649 individuals were arrested for various offences during this period.
“The brigade’s operations included Ops Taring Nyah 1 (Selangor and Johor) to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants, Ops Kontraban to curb smuggling of goods, Ops Bersepadu Khazanah targeting offences related to wildlife and national resources, and Ops Hazard for environmental crimes.
“These operations were conducted in coordination with other enforcement agencies at both inter- and intra-agency levels, in line with a holistic approach to addressing cross-border crime,” he said in a statement.
Hakemal said the results demonstrate the GOF’s ongoing commitment to combating crimes that threaten national security and public well-being.
“The public is encouraged to support the police by providing information and serving as the eyes and ears of the security forces to help ensure the country’s borders remain secure,” he added.
