KOTA BHARU, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- The Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) recorded more than 1.78 million individual movements in and out through the border gates at the Rantau Panjang Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex throughout last year.
Rantau Panjang AKPS Deputy Commander Bakri Sulaiman said that out of that total, 853,553 people were recorded entering the country, while 931,659 people exited through the border gate.
"This high volume of movement reflects the vital role of the Rantau Panjang AKPS as one of the country's primary gateways, particularly for Malaysia-Thailand cross-border travel," he said in a statement today.
According to him, in terms of enforcement, a total of 14 arrests were made throughout 2025 involving various offences under immigration law provisions.
Bakri noted that in May 2025, six individuals were detained under Section 56(1)(i) and Section 56(1)(l) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, while last November, eight more individuals were detained under Section 2(2) of the Passport Act 1960.
During the same period, the Rantau Panjang AKPS also issued 166 Notices of Refusal of Entry (NTL) to individuals who failed to meet the entry requirements into the country.
"These refusal actions are implemented to ensure national security is constantly preserved and to comply with existing legal provisions," he said.
Additionally, the Rantau Panjang AKPS recorded seizures of prohibited goods with a total estimated value of RM610,589 for the period January to December 2025.
According to Bakri, the seizures involved offences under several legal provisions, including the Customs Act 1967, the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the Food Act 1983, and the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
