MARINE POLICE SEIZE NEARLY 79,000 LITRES OF DIESEL IN PASIR GUDANG RAID

JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The Marine Police Force (PPM) Region Two seized 78,800 litres of diesel worth RM263,980 in a raid at Taman Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang here yesterday.

PPM Region Two commander ACP Noor Azman Jamal said the raid was conducted at about 4 pm, and led to the arrest of a 50-year-old local man believed to be acting as a caretaker or worker at the premises.

He said inspections found a large quantity of diesel stored at the premises and raised suspicions over discrepancies between the actual volume and the amount recorded in the stock book.

“Initial investigations found that the diesel was obtained through legitimate purchases, but also involved small-scale retail purchases from certain individuals or syndicates,” he said in a statement today.

He said the tactic was believed to have been used to obscure the actual volume of diesel stockpiled and to evade detection by the authorities.

He said the suspect was believed to have committed an offence under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, for possessing or storing controlled goods without valid authorisation or licence.

All the diesel was seized and the case has been handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living for further action.

PPM Region Two also warned that firm action would be taken against any party involved in the misuse or diversion of controlled goods, especially subsidised fuel.
