KUCHING,  Jan 28 (Bernama) --  The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has seized a boat suspected of being used for smuggling cigarettes and liquor during an enforcement operation in the waters of Kuala Lawas, Lawas.

Miri Maritime Zone director, Maritime Captain Mohd Khairol Anuar Saad, said the seizure was made at about 1.40 am last Jan 22 following a routine patrol.

He said an inspection of the boat,  with no crew onboard and without a registration number,  found that it was loaded with contraband involving 100 cartons of various brands of liquor and 475 cartons of various brands of white cigarettes, believed to be untaxed.

“All the seized goods, estimated to be almost RM250,000, were taken to the Miri Maritime Zone Complex for further action,” he said in a statement today.
