ALOR SETAR, Jan 30 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) foiled an attempt to bring in various types of foodstuff that were not declared to customs at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex, yesterday.
Bukit Kayu Hitam AKPS commander SAC Mohd Nasarudin Md Nasir said the seizure was made following an inspection of a lorry that passed through the import route at the complex at 10 pm.
“Further inspection found that the consignment contained various types of food that were not declared to the authorities.
“Among the items seized were rice flour, fragrant rice, glutinous rice, chicken-flavoured seasoning powder and shrimp tomyam-flavoured instant noodles. The estimated total value of the seizure is RM10,400, based on the current local market value,” he said in a statement today.
He said no individual arrests were made during the seizure operation.
He added that all the seized items were detained and stored at the Cargo Scanning Machine Unit (UMPK) store for further action according to existing procedures and regulations.
Meanwhile, Mohd Nasarudin said that through the Foreign Vehicle Operation which has been implemented since Jan 15 until now, his party has inspected 180 vehicles, with five notices issued for various technical and documentation offences.
“In addition, 29 Thai motorcycle taxis were inspected and all were ordered to return to Thailand without any arrests,” he said.
