KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- A former unit trust consultant and his ex-wife pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to two charges of cheating in a unit trust investment worth RM20,000 three years ago.
Amran Mohd Amin, 59, and Nadihah Nawi, 35, both former unit trust agents, were jointly accused of indirectly engaging in a fraud against two individuals in connection with an investment by Kenanga Investors Berhad, resulting in the victims issuing separate cheques worth RM10,000 each for investment.
The cheques were instead used to purchase unit trusts in Nadihah’s account at Kenanga Investors Berhad, Kenanga Tower, Jalan Tun Razak, between Jan 20, 2022, and Jun 27, 2022.
They were charged under Section 179(b) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of RM1 million upon conviction.
Securities Commission (SC) prosecutor Adibah Saiful Bahri sought bail of RM70,000 for Nadihah and RM20,000 for Amran, each with two sureties as previously set by the court.
“We also request the court to maintain an additional condition requiring both accused to report to the SC office in Kuala Lumpur once a month until the case is concluded,” said the prosecutor, who handled the case alongside Sharifah Noor Effah Syed Ahmad Fuad.
Judge Izralizam Sanusi maintained bail at RM70,000 for Nadihah and RM20,000 for Amran, each with two sureties, along with the same additional condition as previously set, and fixed April 2 for the next case mention.
At today’s proceedings, Nadihah was represented by lawyer Azrul Hasyimi Mohammad, while Amran was represented by lawyer Nor Azri Mohd Arif.
On Sept 8, 2025, both Amran and Nadihah had pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to similar charges involving a loss of RM20,000.
