JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained arrest warrants against two Immigration officers who failed to show up in court to be charged over a corruption case.
According to an MACC source, the warrants were issued by Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail after the prosecution, led by MACC deputy public prosecutors Chan Lee Lee and Ameera D’Aneez Mohd Shukari requested that the warrants be issued against both the accused.
“Previously, the lawyer for both the accused, Saleh Tukimin informed the court that both his clients were on sick leave, with one of them suffering a slipped disc and the other having a thyroid problem.
“As such, the court then set that both accused would be charged before Feb 25,” they said.
Both of the accused were set to be charged on Jan 21, but both failed to show up in court and the date was changed to Feb 5.
They were to be charged with receiving bribes on Sept 22, 2024 at the Pasir Gudang Terminal Immigration Office in Johor as an inducement not to conduct a thorough inspection on the travel documents of an Indonesian.
Johor MACC director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin@Hamim confirmed the matter when contacted today, adding that the case was investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act.
