MACC RECOMMENDS REFORMS TO ENHANCE GOVERNANCE OF MYKIOSK PROJECT

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has submitted recommendations to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) to enhance the governance of the MyKiosk project.

The five proposals include conducting a comprehensive needs assessment, including feasibility and economic impact studies; integrating the success of the MyKiosk MADANI project into Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); and establishing a dedicated monitoring unit or special committee to track the project’s effectiveness and outcomes.

Two further points focus on enhancing the MyKiosk MADANI Initiative Guidelines, covering procurement, management, and monitoring, and developing comprehensive Implementation Guidelines for development projects under federal allocations to serve as an operational reference.

The recommendations were presented by MACC’s Governance Investigation Division (BPT) deputy director, 1 Maznah Che Muda, to Local Government Department director general Datuk Mohd Fadzli Mohd Kenali in a ceremony witnessed by BPT director Datuk Mohd Zaki Hassan yesterday.

In a statement today, MACC said that the proposals were prompted by concerns over government allocations for the MyKiosk project, which amounted to RM50 million in 2023 and RM100 million in 2024.

“The MyKiosk project has been described as a ‘white elephant’, failing to achieve government objectives and causing public inconvenience due to poorly chosen kiosk locations.

“Among the main issues are the lack of a comprehensive needs assessment and monitoring mechanism, including KPIs, which undermines the evaluation of the project’s impact at the local authority level,” the statement read.

Mohd Zaki said the recommendations, meant to prevent abuse of power, leakage of funds and loopholes for corruption,  were well-received and agreed upon by the Local Government Department

“This measure is expected to strengthen the MyKiosk project, making it more transparent, focused and accountable,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mohd Fadzli welcomed MACC’s proposed improvements, which were formalised through a joint signing of the Governance Improvement Report.
