PUTRAJAYA, March 4 (Bernama) -- The transfer of Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) will not affect ongoing investigations or prosecutions by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
In fact, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the move would not disrupt cases currently underway, including those at trial.
Wan Shaharuddin has been appointed Deputy Head II of the Appellate and Trial Division at the Attorney General's Chambers, effective March 2.
“It will not interfere with ongoing investigations or the prosecution process. I have been informed that he will be asked to continue handling any cases still pending under his supervision,” Azam told a press conference here today.
Wan Shaharuddin, who served as a deputy public prosecutor at the MACC from 2019, has led several high-profile cases, including the Armada funds misappropriation case involving Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, the Penang undersea tunnel corruption case linked to former chief minister Lim Guan Eng, and the abuse of power and money laundering charges faced by former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
In a separate development, Azam said a proposal to livestream corruption appeal proceedings at the Court of Appeal forms part of efforts to enhance judicial transparency.
He said such a move would reflect the government’s openness and allow the public to better understand cases, underscoring that corruption is a serious offence requiring firm action.
“Corruption cases often attract significant public attention, from mainstream and social media alike. There have previously been various allegations and claims circulating. With live broadcasts, the public can hear the arguments presented for themselves,” he said.
Azam noted that Court of Appeal proceedings focus on legal submissions by the prosecution and defence, rather than witness testimony.
Livestreaming, he added, would enable the public to assess the merits of both sides’ arguments and strengthen confidence in the judiciary, particularly amid concerns that some parties have used social media to distort facts disclosed in court.
