ALOR SETAR, March 12 (Bernama) -- A man suffered burns to his face, hands, and legs after he was caught in a flash fire while cleaning a boat at the Sungai Itau fisherman's jetty in Langkawi yesterday.
Langkawi Police Chief ACP Khairul Azhar Nuruddin said in the 7.20 pm incident, the 35-year-old victim was cleaning the vessel when sparks erupted from the battery and boat pump.
“The fire immediately spread to the victim who was inside the boat. At 7.45 pm, a nearby friend of the victim heard an explosion-like sound and hurried to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the friend found the victim with burns to his face, hands, and legs,” he said in a statement today.
Khairul Azhar added that the victim was rushed to the Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkawi by his friend for treatment.
