KUCHING, March 17 (Bernama) -- A total of 750 police officers and personnel have been mobilised for monitoring and enforcement duties in Sarawak for Op Selamat 26 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the six-day operation, from March 19 to 24 by the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, will focus on major city routes identified as being accident or congestion hotspots.

“Officers and personnel will be placed at selected locations where accidents and jams happen, and will also conduct patrols to ensure premises and homes are safe and free from criminal threats,” he said in a statement today, as he urged the public to inform the police before leaving their homes through various channels for monitoring purposes.

According to statistics, the number of road accidents during Aidilfitri last year dropped slightly to 332 cases compared to 354 cases in the same period in 2024.

“Fatal crashes also dropped to five cases from seven cases the year before, proving the effectiveness of enforcement and public awareness,” he said, adding that Kuching remained the district with the highest crash rates with 87 cases, followed by Miri (50) and Padawan (43).
