Jertih Fire and Rescue Station chief Mustafa Ismail said the department received an emergency call at 10.22 am before deploying six personnel and a fire engine to the location.
“The victim, identified as Azmani Mukhtar, 45, is believed to have fallen into the river while casting a net from a boat.
“The body was found by members of the public who were searching the area, about three metres from where the victim was believed to have fallen, at 12.11 pm and was confirmed dead by the medical team,” he said when contacted today.
Mustafa said the fire and rescue team assisted in retrieving the body before handing it over to the police.
Meanwhile, Besut police chief Supt Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said the body had been sent to the Forensic Unit of Besut Hospital for a post-mortem.
