MOU ON OPPOSITION ALLOCATION: MUHYIDDIN NEEDS TO BE MORE STATESMAN-LIKE - FAHMI

20/09/2024 09:22 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been urged to take a more statesman-like attitude and a more open approach in discussing the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning allocations for opposition Members of Parliament (MPs).

Unity Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president should cast aside the attitude of pride and arrogance for the sake of the nation's future.

"I ask Tan Sri Muhyiddin to adopt a more statesman-like attitude, be more open, be generous, sit at the negotiating table and we discuss. If, after that, any Opposition MP wants to complain, don't blame anyone except the PN president.

"I believe many of the PN MPs want to see if the allocations or certain matters they wish to carry out will be included in the MoU,” he said.

He said this when met before the Gerakan Rakyat Gathering at the Axiata Arena here today.

Earlier, Muhyiddin was reported to have said that PN would not submit any new proposal regarding the MoU.

He also reaffirmed PN's decision to reject the MoU regarding allocations for opposition MPs, which is considered to be against the constitution and the pure nature of the Malaysian people.

Meanwhile, Fahmi, also the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) information chief, expects 10,000 people to participate in tonight's Gerakan Rakyat Gathering.

The Gerakan Rakyat Gathering, themed 'Dari Reformasi ke Malaysia MADANI’, is organised to commemorate the moment the 'Reformasi’ movement began 26 years ago.

The activities include recounting the history of the 'Reformasi’ movement, poetry recitals, a short theatre performance and speeches by 'Reformasi’ leaders.
