MAXIS EKELAS MJD 2024 CONTINUES MISSION TO SPARK INTEREST IN STEM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- The Maxis eKelas Misi Jelajah Digital (MJD) competition continues its mission to spark interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among Malaysian school students by challenging them to design digital advocacy campaigns using Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools.

In its statement announcing MJD 2024 today, Maxis is inviting students to create a digital campaign that supports one of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Themed “GenAI for Good”, this year’s MJD centres on the everyday use of GenAI in responsible, productive, and creative ways. Students are encouraged to do research and select from any of the 17 goals to practise their prompts and critical thinking skills, read the statement.

MJD 2024 was launched by the Ministry of Education, Educational Resources And Technology Division director Aniza Kamarulzaman at Sekolah Menengah Teknik Kuala Lumpur recently, with GenAI workshops attended by 120 students. 

"The Educational Resources and Technology Division of the Ministry of Education fully supports activities and programmes that can help improve digital technology skills among students and teachers, in line with the national Digital Education Policy," said Aniza in her opening speech.

The statement also noted that Maxis eKelas is conducting a series of in-person workshops at 70 selected schools across Johor, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Sabah, and Selangor, along with two virtual workshops via the Maxis eKelas Portal, to encourage wider participation.

For MJD 2024, secondary school students receive guidance on effectively using GenAI as part of their digital skillset to create their digital campaigns, while primary school students are taught to use digital tools, equipping them with the skills needed to promote their chosen SDG, it added. 

“STEM education is the foundation for innovation in today’s world, and developing the skills is an advantage for students to realise their future potential,” said Maxis’ Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Bevi Batcha

“As the Ministry of Education’s Rakan DELIMa, we hope that all Malaysian students can take advantage of the free lessons available on Maxis eKelas and use those skills to take part in MJD as well as improve academically,” she added.

Maxis eKelas, available to all students from Year 4 to Form 5, offers learning enrichment in a fun and engaging way via access to quality educational content through live tutorials, competitions, and a wide range of digital resources.

 Maxis eKelas is free for all Malaysian students and can be accessed through www.ekelas.com.my or the mobile app on Google Play or iOS App Store. Since 2023, it is also accessible via the Ministry of Education’s DELIMa portal.
