MMEA PERSONNEL MUST CULTIVATE A CULTURE OF LEADERSHIP, ACCOUNTABILITY– MOHD ROSLI

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 24 (Bernama) — The newly appointed director-general of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Maritime Rear Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah, has called on all maritime personnel to cultivate a culture of leadership, accountability, integrity, and mutual respect.

Mohd Rosli, appointed to the role on Sept 17, emphasised that these values must be upheld at every level, according to each individual's capacity and role, and guided by the seven pillars of MMEA’s empowerment strategy, which will serve as the foundation for reforming the agency throughout his leadership.

The seven pillars are proactive and inclusive leadership; loyalty; human capital and organisational development; governance strengthening; asset readiness; the adoption of cutting-edge technology; and the strengthening of collaborative networks.

"All officers and personnel must function as a unified team that is always prepared, professional, skilled, and firmly committed to carrying out their entrusted duties," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Rosli, who is dedicated to ensuring that MMEA strives to excel in line with its vision of becoming a global leader in maritime enforcement, pledged to provide the necessary resources, training, and support to achieve this goal.

He stated that enhancing operations is crucial due to the increasingly dynamic challenges faced by the agency, including issues of intrusion, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, illegal fishing, drug trafficking, and contraband.

Therefore, he gave his full commitment to strengthening and modernising MMEA's assets through planned procurement projects, such as the Multipurpose Mission Ship, Ex-USCG Cutter vessels, and four AW189 helicopters.

However, Mohd Rosli noted that the sophistication of these assets should be fully supported by the cooperation of the personnel to ensure the agency remains close to, trusted by, and relied upon by the community.
