EXPAND FIKRAH MADANI SEMINAR TO IGNITE INTELLECTUAL WAVE IN SOCIETY - MOHD NA'IM

24/09/2024 01:46 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar has suggested the expansion of the Fikrah MADANI Seminar to the zone and state level to drive an intellectual wave that can shape fikrah (philosophy of thinking) MADANI within society.

He said the seminar's impact could ignite a strong wave of intellectual intelligence guided by recognised and credible fikrah MADANI, adding that it is essential for addressing extremist thought patterns among certain groups that could divide society.

"Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) often raises concerns about the shallowness of knowledge and dullness of thought, which causes society to be easily misled and confused by beliefs, ideologies and doctrines that deviate from the principles of faith, rationality and moderate approach (wasatiyyah) advocated by Islam.

"Therefore, the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) hopes that the Fikrah MADANI Seminar will become a brand for the intellectual development activities of the Muslim community that will be well-received," he said in his opening speech at the seminar at Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan today.

The speech text was read by his political secretary, Dr Muhamad Razak Idris.

The Fikrah MADANI Seminar, titled Sheikh Dr Yusuf Al-Qaradhawi – Penghayatan Manhaj Islah dan Tajdid Dalam Pemerkasaan Umat serves as a platform for discussing this renowned scholar's thoughts and significant contributions.

Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradhawi, who passed away on Sept 26, 2022, was an influential Islamic scholar, social activist, and prolific writer whose works are used as a reference by many Islamic movements worldwide for their moderate views.

Mohd Na'im said Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradhawi's approach to empowering the Muslim community is essential for Muslims to understand, especially for preachers and educators, adding that scholars and intellectuals recognise his methods in reforming and renewing the ummah as they contain a clear and comprehensive understanding of tasawwur (conceptualisation of knowledge) in Islam.

"His moderate approach in his understanding and action along with his mastery of past and present knowledge, is relevant in addressing the challenges and needs of today's ummah," he added.
